Overview

Your privacy, plainly explained

Eatona, a product of Teknikforce, is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and what rights you have. We keep things simple — no surprises.

Section 1

Data we collect

Profile Information

  • Name, age, gender, height, weight, and dietary preferences you provide during onboarding
  • Fitness goals (weight loss, muscle gain, maintenance)
  • Daily calorie and macro targets calculated from your profile

Food & Health Data

  • Meal logs, calorie and macro entries you record
  • Weight records and trend history
  • Daily water intake logs
  • Favourite foods list

Camera & Photos

  • Images you capture or select to analyse food items or menus
  • These are processed by our AI provider and are not stored on our servers beyond the duration of the request

Usage Data

  • Anonymous information about how you interact with the app to help us improve performance
Section 2

How we use your data

  • Provide AI-powered nutritional analysis and personalised meal recommendations
  • Calculate your daily calorie and macro targets based on your profile
  • Display insights, trends, and weekly coaching feedback
  • Send meal reminder notifications if you have enabled them
  • Improve the app through anonymised usage analytics
Section 3

Data storage

Your profile, food diary, weight log, and favourites are stored locally on your device using SQLite. This data is not transmitted to our servers unless you are using a feature that explicitly requires it (e.g. AI food analysis).

  • Food diary and weight log — on your device only
  • AI food analysis — temporarily handled by OpenAI, not persisted
  • Profile photos — stored in AWS S3 (private, access-controlled)
Section 4

Third-party services

OpenAI (GPT-4o)

Food photos and text are sent to OpenAI's API for analysis. OpenAI operates under enterprise-grade security and does not use your data to train its models. See OpenAI's Privacy Policy.

Open Food Facts

Barcode lookups query the Open Food Facts public database. This is read-only — no personal data is transmitted.

What we never do

  • Sell your personal data to any third party
  • Share your health data for marketing or advertising
  • Use your information for anything beyond running Eatona
Section 5

Device permissions

  • Camera — to photograph food and menus for AI analysis
  • Photo Library — to select existing photos for analysis
  • Notifications — to send optional daily meal reminders
  • Internet Access — to communicate with AI and barcode lookup services

All permissions are used solely for the stated purposes within the app.

Section 6

Your rights

Since your data is stored locally on your device, you retain full control over it at all times.

  • Delete your data by clearing the app's storage through your device settings
  • Uninstall the app to remove all local data
  • Contact us to request any server-side data we may hold

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at teknikforce.com/contactus

Section 7

Data retention

  • Locally stored data — persists until you uninstall the app or clear app data
  • AI processing data — not retained after the request is fulfilled
  • Profile photos — retained in S3 while your account is active; removed on deletion
Section 8

Children's privacy

Eatona is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Section 9

Changes to this policy

We may revise this policy as our practices evolve. When we make material changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use Eatona after a change takes effect means you accept the updated policy.
